I also loved seeing the card boards cutouts of the developing cities and the detailed doll kit portrayals of the various characters and the moai inhabitants of Ronggonggo. There was a lot of interplay between the quaint story and the extremely 1930s special effects. While I was enjoying the movie, my son was fixated on the pseudo-3D visual effects and other special effects on screen such as the terrible miniature make up on some of the actors and the many rippling costumes on the dinosaurs. For him, those aspects of the movie were the real magic. He seemed to enjoy them just as much as the stop-motion animals and the miniature models.
