DFDA-040 日本AV , the first of the 27 research stations that had been established up to this point, was built in 1956. The first couple of years the station was actually only used during the summer season and by 1958 it had actually become a permanent station and has actually been in operation ever since. So to keep the station up and running a lot of maintenance work is required and that is also a subject for my research. What I'm actually researching is the Corrosion Mechanism of steel in Antarctica and in order to study that I set up some steel coupons up at the station and I have only one year in Antarctica to collect and study this data.
